About Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu, which means “Old Mountain”, is one of the most acclaimed tourist sites in the world. For this reason, it was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO.
Machu Picchu is located in the region of Cusco, province of Urubamba, district of Machupicchu, on the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 80 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. Next to it runs the Urubamba River, which crosses the mountain range and creates a canyon with a tropical mountain climate.
This Inca citadel, considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world, hides within its stone walls a long history of Inca tradition dating from the fifteenth century and is said to have been the home of the ninth Inca, Pachacutec. This archaeological site was used as a sanctuary to worship the gods of the Andean cosmovision, and was hidden from the modern world until its discovery in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham on a Yale University expedition to the southeastern Peruvian Andes.
This enigmatic place impresses thousands of people year after year, for its large blocks of stone fitted to perfection, the complexity of its structures, the agricultural and urban sector, mausoleums and squares, as well as the Temple of the Three Windows, the Intiwatana and other groups of sacred stones.
Undoubtedly, Machu Picchu is a Cusco destination that you must visit and explore. Therefore, we present you this ideal option to visit the Wonder of the World in 1 day.
