In the time of the Quechuas, the Inca Queswachaca bridge was built entirely of Q’oya or chirua (straw) used to make the q’eswas (ropes) that are attached to logs, timbers, and a stone structure. They were built exclusively to support the Inca bridge.
The Queswachaca bridge is proof of how our ancestors combined Andean engineering and tradition into a complex technology that is passed down from generation to generation.
In modern times, the bridge represents the validity of the link of the people with their land and their history.
The annual renewal of the Q’eswachaka constitutes the central element of the cohesion of participating communities and is vital in shaping their cultural identity.

Our tour of the Inca Bridge Queswachaka begins with the pick up of our clients from 05:00 am.
Then, we will head southwest of Cusco. After almost two hours of travel, we will have beautiful scenery of the four lagoons: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha and Pampamarca or Tungasuca lagoons. After enjoying a quiet moment by the lagoons, the next place we will visit will be the small volcano of halls that is located near the town of Yanaoca.
Finally, we will arrive at the Apurimac River and the impressive bridge, this Inca hanging bridge is made of vegetable fiber (ichu) and is located over the Apurimac River in the district of Quehue. The existence of this bridge dates back to Inca times. Renovation and maintenance are done once a year by local people from the four surrounding communities.
We will have the opportunity to cross the Inca bridge. It looks easy, but it will take courage.
Undoubtedly, you will feel a great thrill crossing this bridge so much so that you will feel like Indiana Jones. On the way back to Cusco, we will visit the archaeological site of Rumiqolqa, the buildings probably date from the time of the Tiahuanaco-Huari civilization and were later covered with carved and polished stones in the time of the Incas.
Once the visit is over, we will return to the city of Cusco, arriving at 18:00 hours.
