Cocalmayo Hot Springs
Currently, the thermal baths of Cocalmayo reopen their doors after being closed for a while due to the pandemic. Cocalmayo is visited by many tourists, local, national, and foreign. The great curative properties of its waters attract the attention of people from different parts of the country since they are good for rheumatism, and bone pain, among others.
The thermal baths are formed by 3 pools of different sizes and depths, which are surrounded by nature. Their bottom is made up of soft sand and small, warm rocks all around.
Before the pandemic, it was possible to camp in this place, but due to biosecurity measures, the baths only operate during the day, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, local time.
In Cocalmayo Hot Springs can enjoy outdoor hot pools fed by natural hot springs, built between a small mountain full of vegetation and the Urubamba River that surrounds it.
Very close to the hot springs, there are cold showers, the water comes from the Uripata lagoons. The sensation of mixing two temperatures in the water is undoubtedly very refreshing and pleasant.

The Cocalmayo or Santa Teresa baths are in the Urubamba River valley, located about 20 minutes from the town of Santa Teresa in the province of La Convención, Cusco.
How to get to Cocalmayo Hot Springs?
If you are in Cusco you must get to Santa Teresa by taking a bus to Quillabamba, you must get off in the town of Santa Teresa. The journey will take about 5 hours and about 220 km. of travel.
Santa Teresa is located near the valley, so its climate is warm. Once in the town, you will have to take a private vehicle that will take you to the hot springs. The trip will take an average of 1 hour more until you arrive at the expected place and take a comforting bath.
You can also take the train from Ollantaytambo to Santa Teresa.
If you are in Aguas Calientes, after visiting Machu Picchu, there are two ways to get to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo:
- You can get to the baths by walking, from “Hidroeléctrica”, the walk will take you about 2 to 3 hours, crossing bridges and a tunnel. The beautiful landscape that you will appreciate will be unique and incomparable, you only have to follow the train tracks and that’s it.
- You can also choose to take a train from Aguas Calientes to Hidroeléctrica. The trip will take approximately 20 minutes.
